GARDEN RETAINING WALLS

Achieve aestheitc improvements by creating different levels in your garden with a retaining wall

A retaining wall is a structure designed to retain soil on onside and be free standing on the other. They help to accommodate significant differences in ground level. They can also be used on flat ground to raise living spaces.

Garden retaining walls are subject to loads known as lateral earth pressures. These are cause by the weight of the soil and build up of water (hydrostatic pressure) behind the wall (Note: the main cause of most retaining wall failures are due hydrostatic pressures that have been unaccounted for during their design).

Building regulations Is not normally required for landscaping. Local authorities do however impose height restrictions on walls, so this will need to be checked.

It is important to obtain expert structural engineering advice and guidance. HH Structures will provide a structural design that is safe and durable to suit you landscape.
